Evolution Influnces Technology...or the opposite?

Hello, now that my head is clearer, and I got a suggestion from my IT teacher (actually it's more of an assignment).

Dear CS_Striker421,
Can you please create a blog including two entries one about technological evolution, and the other one a question you've had about our technological advances, and attempt to answer it. (I'm not asking you to do it, I'm telling you to do it).

Sincerely, Mrs. Fairlie.
(PS: If you don't do it, you'll get a Zero)

Er, okay. I'm not going to create a new blog. However, here's the first post.

Medicine has been with us for a very long time. Medicine has been traced back as far back as when Erectus roamed around Africa, they apparently used a resin from a plant that had a pretty similar composition to the composition of our anesthetic that we generally use in surgery nowadays. Small pox, Polio, and Rabies are just examples of once dangerous diseases that are now under control with help of vaccines. Penicillin was probably one of the greatest medicines ever created in the history of medicine. However, that may change, as in the works, is a pain vaccine. A vaccine which significantly reduces pain for anyone for three to four months will overshadow the amazing discovery of penicillin.

From what we can say from the military (without getting ourselves in big danger), the vaccine works by cutting off the signals sent by the sensory nerves, as pain is just a message to tell you GET ME FIXED! The vaccine will not work instantaneously, as at first you’ll sense some pain at first, but after a few seconds, you’ll feel fine. So basically, if you put your hand on a hot oven, you’ll feel the initial pain, and your hand will jerk away, but the pain will fade out much more quickly than normally. Considering of how many times we get hurt or feel pain, when this vaccine will enter the market, it will most likely be a big hit (as long as the prices hold). This however, will not be available to us for a few years of when the vaccine will be a standard medical tool in the army. So we will need to be patient for us to be able to almost eliminate pain. However, when we will have this, things like ‘no pain no game’ or ‘no brain, no pain’ will almost become untrue.

How much will society change with such a vaccine is something will shall (hopefully) find out within the next three to four years.

Here are some links related to vaccines and pain.

Click here to see more on current methods to reduce pain.

Click here to understand why some new vaccines may not be available for everyone.

Okay, I'd guess that wraps it up, see you on (Friday or tomorrow) .

Bye.

I have to disagree with you when you say that this pain vaccine is a greater discovery than penicillin. Before the discovery of penicillin, it was almost impossible to cure bacterial infections and bacterial diseases. Now, if you get an infection, it is pretty easy to cure. Before penicillin was discovered, a simple bacterial infection was often fatal. A human body can deal with pain without any trouble, and unless someone has a death wish, I am sure that people would rather deal with the pain of a hot stove or a cut on the arm but still live. I also cannot understand why you did not mention cancer patients and other people living with life threatening diseases who could use this pain vaccine. I understand that his vaccine is being created exclusively for the military, but once it does "hit the market", ethically, you would expect it to be available to suffering patients. However, it is a very important issue and I'm glad you brought it up.
